Works by Eric J. Garcia

Cultural Conflicts is an exhibition that critically examines the military confrontations and cultural complications of Mexican and American relations. This is an exhibition of war narratives, particularly those concerning the history of Chicano culture. Growing from the belief that the power of imagery is a tremendous vehicle for telling stories, Garcia visually interrogates versions of American history that have been overlooked and whitewashed. Garcia’s media ranges from painting to hand printed posters to inked political cartoons, but his goal remains constant: to educate and challenge. Each of Garcia’s historically-based graphic caricatures are placed in a dramatic setting accompanied by satirical script, so that a story is told with just one crucial scene.
